Linda Gowans has submitted the following:-

There appears to be no direct connection with Sunderland, but James Erle Radcliff Rosier was at camp in 1914: it is likely that he was a visitor to St Gabriel’s in connection with his candidacy for Holy Orders.

The website of Alleyn’s School, Dulwich, gives more detail of his background and education. Born on August 1st, 1893, he was the only son of James Henry Edmund Rosier, gentleman, and Rose MariaAnna Rosier, née Scott. He was educated at Weymouth College, St Paul’s School, and Alleyn’s. After leaving school he continued his studies at Sidney Sussex College, Cambridge, from October 1912. His degree of B.A. was awarded on February 12th 1916.

His mother chose the inscription: ‘Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God. S. Matthew V.8.’

In addition to St Gabriel's at Sunderland, his name is on the war memorials of Alleyn’s School, Sidney Sussex College, and St Alban The Martyr Church, St John’s Road, Westcliffe-on-Sea, Essex.
