Fairweather, D.B., Pte., 1916
On the Thiepval Memorial is the name of S/8305 Private David Black Fairweather, serving with the Black Watch (Royal Highlanders) who died 03/09/1916.

Colin Boyd has provided the following:

David was born in Lochee, Forfarshire and was living with his parents, James A. and M.A. Fairweather of 42, Barnard Street, Sunderland when he enlisted in the 1st Battalion, Royal Highland Regiment. He landed in France on 28th July 1915 and was killed in action on 3rd September 1916.

Among his effects was a book "Characteristics of Jesus Christ" with the following pencil inscription inside : "David Fairweather, 42, Barnard Street, Chester Road, Sunderland. To me from the Rev. A. Freeman, July 1916." The book was in David's breast pocket and was pierced by the shrapnel which killed him.

The name of David Black Fairweather is not on a local war memorial.
