Walker, F. awarded M.C. 1918
The Sunderland Echo 09/07/1919 reports on people receiving presentations:

Lieut. J. Walker, attached to Machine Gun Corps, gained the Military Cross on 5th April, 1918. He was in command of No. 1 Section, using them as a "Battery of Opportunity". He was placed on the left flank of a local attack on Resignol Wood, the object being to capture the wood. His orders were to advance to a certain point when the capture was completed, and enfilade the enemy leaving the wood. On receiving a message that the wood had been captured he advanced with his section to that point, but found after arrival that some mistake had been made in sending the message, and the wood was still in the hands of the enemy. He found himself completely surrounded, but decided to fight for it, although greatly outnumbered, and he succeeded with his battery in fighting his way back to his own lines."
