In Jonkerbos War Cemetery, the Netherlands, is the Commonwealth War Grave of 1104498 Flight Sergeant Robert Wilson, serving with the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, who died 12/03/1943.

Sgt. Wilson was killed when Avro Lancaster III ED449 VN-T of 50 Squadron was lost on a mission to Essen. The Lancaster was shot down by a Luftwaffe night fighter, and crashed on the banks of the River Maas, near Venray, the Netherlands, with the loss of all seven crew members.

Also killed in the same crash was Sgt. Ronald Heslop

He is remembered in Sunderland on S140.031 and S140.040
