Kennedy, W.J., 1st Eng., 1917
On Tower Hill Memorial is the name of First Engineer William John Kennedy, serving with the Mercantile Marine who died 04/01/1917.

Rev. David Youngson has provided the following:

A Marine Engineer, he was Initiated Into 949 Williamson Lodge, Masonic Hall, Monkwearmouth on the 16th March 1908; Passed 15th April 1908 and Raised on the 15th June 1908. He was the brother of Miss Mary Hannah Kennedy of 23 The Royalty, Sunderland. He died on the 4th January 1917 aged 50 and is remembered on the Tower Hill Memorial, London.

The S.S. Lonclara (1294 GRT) owned by the Port of London Authority was mined and sunk off the River Wear with the loss of four lives.
