Shotton, R.H., L/Smn., 1914
On the Chatham Naval Memorial is the name of 203871 Leading Seaman Rowlandson Hardy Shotton R.F.R. B8558, serving with the Royal Navy who died 15/10/1914.

He was the son of Robert Shotton, of 2 East Street, Hendon, Sunderland.

Rowlandson Hardy Shotton lost his life on H.M.S. Hawke.

H.M.S. Hawke was a protected cruiser built by Chatham Dockyard which was torpedoed by the U Boat U-9 on the 15th October 1914 in the North Sea, between Peterhead and the Naze.

The U-Boat was commanded by Otto Weddigen
