Ainsley, G.H., Pte., 1918
In Giavera British Cemetery, Arcade, is the Commonwealth War Grave of 73926 Private George Hedley Ainsley, serving with the Durham Light Infantry who died 30/10/1918.

The Washington Star 04/10/2012 carries an article on Private Ainsley, telling his story.

The Chester-le-Street Chronicle 06/12/1918 carries a death notice which reads:

“Eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. John Ainsley of Fatfield. With aching hearts we shook his hand, tears glistened in our eyes. We wished him luck but little thought it was our last goodbye.”

George Henry Ainsley is remembered at Fatfield on F44.01, F44.03, F44.05 and F44.06
