In Barnard Castle (St Mary) Church Cemetery is the Commonwealth War Grave with a private headstone of 1204927 Aircraftman First Class Arthur Milner, serving with the 224 Squadron Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, who died 17/06/1943.

Son of Mr. and Mrs. J. Milner, of Barnard Castle.

The headstone reads:-

In
loving memory of
Arthur Milner
R.A.F. Accidentally killed
June 17th 1941 aged 26 years
also Joseph
father of the above
died Feb. 7th 1960
aged 71 years

Simon Glancey has submitted the following:

AC1 Milner, of 224 Squadron, died at Limavady, Northern Ireland. Casualty Communique No. 75, published in Flight Magazine of August 7th 1941, records that he Died on Active Service.

Arthur Milner is remembered at Barnard Castle on B135.11 and B135.22
