Son of Robert William and Eliza Jane Deacon, of Barnard Castle. His brother Derrick also died on service.

Sgt Deacon was killed when Handley Page Halifax V DG419 'H' of 1663 H.C.U. (Heavy Conversion Unit) crashed on a training flight from R.A.F. Rufforth. The Halifax was practising propeller feathering, but control was lost while closing down the outer port engine, and the Halifax spiralled into the ground near Great Driffield, Yorkshire. He was the brother of Derrick Deacon

The brothers are both remembered at Barnard Castle on B135.19 and B135.22
