In Barnard Castle Nonconformist Cemetery is the Commonwealth War Grave with a private headstone of 571423 Sergeant Thomas Arnold Chapman, serving with the Royal Air Force, who died 20/05/1943.

Son of Anthony and Mary Anne Chapman, of Barnard Castle; husband of Kathleen Mary Chapman of Lincoln. 7th row from east wall.

The headstone reads:-

in loving memory of
my beloved husband
Sgt. Thomas Arnold Chapman
R.A.F.
died 26th May 1943 aged 23 years
Also Anthony Chapman
his father
dearly loved husband of Mary A.
died 28th Dec. 1946 Age 70 years

The National Probate Calendar states that Sgt Chapman died at the R.A.F. Hospital, Quarrington, Lincolnshire.

Thomas Arnold Chapman is remembered at Barnard Castle on B135.11 and B135.22
