Clasper, F., Gnr., 1942

On the Singapore Memorial is the name of 1085031 Gunner Frederick Clasper, serving with the Royal Artillery who died 09/02/1942.

Son of John and Mary Ann Clasper; husband of Lily Clasper, of Chester-le-Street, Co. Durham.

His father John was killed in WW1.

The Newcastle Journal 01/09/1943 reports:-

Clasper, previously reported missing Feb. 9th 1942, now killed in action on that day in Malaya, Far East, while on motor despatch duties, R.A., aged 29 years, Frederick beloved husband of Lily Clasper, of 53 Albert Street, Grange Villa. Deep in my heart your memory is kept, I who loved you will never forget. Deeply mourned by his loving wife and two little sons Ronnie and Freddie, mother and father in law and family Mr and Mrs William Parr Craghead

Clasper, reported missing on Feb. 9th now known to have been killed in action on that date in Malaya, Far east, serving in the R.A. as a despatch rider aged 29 Frederick the dear son of Mrs Scott and the late John Clasper (also killed in the last war) and stepson of Mr Joseph Scott of 3 Coronation Terrace Grange Villa. Could I have kissed his dying lips and pressed his hear to mine but God had willed it not to be. Deeply mourned by his mother and stepfather and step brother Joe and all relatives.

Frederick Clasper is remembered at West Pelton in W112.03
