Lumley Churchyard

On Portsmouth Naval Memorial is the name of P/JX 298828Ordinary Seaman Alan Selby Conn Serving with H.M.S Algerine, Royal Navy who died 15/11/1942.

Son of George Walton Conn and Isabella Conn, of Chester-le-Street, Co. Durham.

In Christ Churchyard is a family headstone for Conn which reads:

Sweet memories of George
beloved husband of Ella Conn
died Mar. 9th 1949 aged 62 years
Their son Alan
lost at sea Nov. 15th 1942
aged 20 years

H.M.S. Algerine was a Minesweeper of 940 tons which was sunk 15/11/1942 by torpedo off Bougie, Algeria.

Alan Conn is remembered at Lumley 6th Pit Woodstone Village on W134.02, at Great Lumley on G50.01 and on our List of Ships’ crews
