Eleanor known as Ella Brown was the daughter of Thomas Foster and Sarah Ann nee Fletcher. She was born at Byers Green in September 1899. Thomas was a Coal Miner. Eleanor had four brothers and eight sisters including born in Yorkshire George Phillip 1884, Hilda Mary born 1886, Lionel William born 1890, born at Byers Green – John Fletcher known as Jack born 1892, Jenny born 1896, Annie born 1897, Sarah born 1900, Ida born 1902, died 1903, born at Shildon Thomas Lumsden known as Tom 1904, born at Fencehouses Elizabeth known as Betty 1906 and Isabel born 1909.

The family photograph was taken in 1909 at Fencehouses.

Eleanor enlisted at Newcastle and joined Queen Mary's Army Auxiliary Corps

Eleanor died in the Staffordshire area 9th November 1918 from influenza. Her parents were living at 3 Woodside Terrace Fencehouses at this time.

Eleanor Brown was buried in Great Lumley churchyard. She is not on any War Memorial in the area.
