Frank Rowland was born in 1893 at Leadgate. He married Annie Hall on 27th June 1914.
His occupation was a miner and he lived at 21 Pine Street, Waldridge Village. He enlisted at Chester-le-Street and was posted to the 278th Siege Battery, Royal Garrison Artillery. The Battery was part of the 34th Brigade and was equipped with 6' 6"(152mm) Howitzers.
He died from wounds on the 9th November 1918 on the Western front.

The Chester-le-Street Chronicle 22/11/1918 reports:-
Mrs Rowland, High Street, Waldridge Fell, received information on Sunday that her husband Pte Frank Rowland (30) RFA was seriously injured and later an official telegram was forwarded to her containing the sad intelligence that he had passed away.
Frank Rowland is remembered in Chester-le-Street on C105.01, C105.12, C105.15 and C105.40 and in Waldridge on W130.02, which shows an incorrect date of death of 11/12/1918.
