William Kirby has submitted the following:-

George Middleton was born in 1896 at Chester-le-Street the son of Margret Jane Middleton. In 1897 Margaret married John Waugh. In 1901 George was living with his grandparents at 1 Poplar Street, Chester-le-Street.

In 1911 George was with his mother and stepfather at 18 Tuart Street, Chester-le-Street. At 15 he was working at a local colliery as a driver underground.

George enlisted and joined the Royal Engineers. He died 1st May 1921 and was buried as George Middleton Waugh at Chester-le-Street.

George Middleton Waugh is remembered at Chester-le-Street on the unveiling programme for C105.01 where his name has been added at the end, and his initials incorrectly are given as “G.N.”, also correctly on the additional plaqueC105.28 and C105.40
