William Kirby has provided the following:

He was born in early 1896 in Chester-le-Street. He was the son of George Samuel Pearson, a miner, who died 24th March 1941 aged 75. His mother was Mary Ann Pearson (nee Charlton), who died 1st November 1938 aged 72.

In the 1901 Census Samuel, aged 5, had an older sister, Helena, aged 6, and a younger sister, Jane, aged 3.

The 1911 Census shows that Samuel worked as a coal-miner below ground. His older sister worked as a confectioner.

Samuel Pearson died in Magdalen Camp Hospital in Winchester on 6th December 1918. His father was given his effects which totalled £6.18s.11d which included a War Gratuity of £5.
