William Kirby has submitted the following:-

William Laws was born in 1891 at Chester-le-Street the son ofWilliam and Isabella. His father, William died in December 1908. In 1911 William was living with his widowed mother Isabella at No. 9 Canada, Chester-le-Street. Living in the two roomed dwelling were Isabella, William (19, Coal Miner Putter Below Ground) John, (15, Coal Miner Driver Below Ground) George, (13), Joseph Redvers, (11) Jane Oliver (9) and Frank (5). They also had a lodger John Ritson (48 Coal Miner Hewer).Frank died August 1911 and Isabella died May 1916. They are buried with William (1908) at Ropery Lane Cemetery.

William Laws' military records do not survive but he served with the Army Service Corps and was a Driver. William married in 1920 Sarah B. Moses.

William died January 9th 1921 at the Miltary Hospital, Elisabethville, Birtley and is buried at Ropery Lane. Sarah was living at 21 Hopgarth, Chester-le-Street.
