On the Thiepval Memorial is the name of 45716 Private Joseph Hann, serving with the 1/8th Battalion Durham Light Infantry who died 16/09/1916.

Joseph resided in Chester-le-Street and had enlisted in Durham.

The Chester-le-Street Chronicle 14/09/1917 includes an In Memoriam item:-

Hann - In loving memory of Pte. Joseph Hann, 18th d.L.I. who was killed in action September 16th 1916, the beloved husband of Emily Harriet Hann, Front Street Chester-le-Street.

My husband's gone and I am left. The loss of him to mourn. And may I meet with him above. With Christ before God's throne. Sadly missed by his wife, child and parents.
