Ritson, H.E., Pte., 1918
In Cambrin Military Cemetery, Pas de Calais, France, is the Commonwealth War Grave of 50489 Private Henry Edward Ritson serving with the 25th Battalion Lancashire Fusiliers who died 01/11/1918.

William Kirby has submitted the following:-

Henry Edward was born at Chester-le-Street in 1899 the son of George and Jane Ann nee Anderson Ritson.

In 1901 the family were living at Canada Chester-le-Street with his mother's parents and brother.

In 1910 Jane Ann died and was buried in Ropery Lane cemetery with her parents.

In 1911 the family were living at 28 Wark Street Chester-le-Street.

Henry Edward joined the Lancashire Fusiliers and died of pneumonia November 1st 1918.

Chester-le-Street Chronicle 08/11/1918 reports:-

Ritson: Died of pneumonia, in France on 1st inst. after two years' service, aged 20 years Pte. H.E. Ritson Lanc. Fus., dearly beloved son of Pte. George Ritson 28 Wark Street Chester-le-Street. Ever remembered by his loving father, brothers, sister, sister in law, uncle aunt and cousins and all who knew him.

News has been received of the death from pneumonia on the 1st inst., while serving in France of Pte. H.E. Ritson Lanc. Fusiliers of 28 Wark Street, Chester-le-Street. deceased before joining up, two years ago was in the employ of Mr Parkin as cartman. Another brother Pte. J.G. Ritson K.O.S.B. is also serving having joined the Forces six months prior to the commencement of hostilities. The father Pte. George Ritson is serving in the Royal Defence Corps. joining up three years ago.

Recipient of the British War Medal and Victory Medal.
