William Kirby has submitted the following:-

Norman Frederick was born the 12th October 1912 at Low Fell Gateshead, the son of Arthur Frederick and Ethel nee Jewitt Dowlen. His brother Charles Raymond was born 18th April 1918. Arthur was an Electrician. He served in the Royal Air Force in 1918. Arthur died from pneumonia and influenza at home 49 Station Road, Fence Houses on the 16th February 1919 and is buried at Ropery Lane Cemetery, Chester-le-Street with a family headstone.

In loving memory of Kathleen Margaret dearly beloved daughter of A & E Dowlen died February 11th 1915 aged 8 months
Also Ernest Neville Dowlen who died April 1st 1917 aged 11 months
Also Arthur Frederick Dowlen died February 16th 1919 aged 30 years

Norman attended Chester-le-Street Secondary School from 1924 to 1928.

Norman married Frances Elizabeth Spence in 1939. They had one known child Ian R. Dowlen born 1943.

In 1939 Norman and Frances were living at 9 Golf Course Road, Shiney Row. Norman was a Civil Servant working at the Unemployment Assistant Board.

Norman died at the Ministry of Pensions Hospital at Dunston on the 5th February 1947.

Norman Frederick Dowlen is remembered at Chester-le-Street on C105.05 and C105.39 as Dowlin in C105.38 and as Dowlon on C105.40
