Turnbull, J., Lt.Col., Mentioned in Despatches
The Newcastle Daily Chronicle 03/01/1916 carries a photograph of Lieutenant Colonel J. Turnbull, of Chester-le-Street, who had been Mentioned in Despatches.

He presented the plaque bearing the Battle Honours.

The Newcastle Daily Chronicle 02/11/1916 reports:

'Marriage of Capt. J. Turnbull.
The marriage took place very quietly at St.Potolphs’ Church, Quarrington, Sleaford, Lincolnshire, yesterday, of Captain John Turnbull, Durham Light Infantry, only son of Mrs. and the late Mr. James Turnbull, of Springfield, Chester-le-Street, and Laura, second daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Ward, Manor House, Quarrington. The bridegroom is on sick leave from the front after having been severely wounded.

The bride was given away by her father, and was attended as bridesmaids by Miss M. Ward, her sister, Miss M. Turnbull, sister of the bridegroom, and Miss E. Ward, a niece. The best man was Capt. F. Barnes, R.A.M.C., Sleaford. Only members of the two families were present. The honeymoon will be spent in London and on the south coast.'
