Son of Samuel and Helen Bruce, of Chester-le-Street.
William Kirby has submitted the following:-
James was born 6th August 1900, at Chester-le-Street, the son of Samuel and Helen Bruce.
In 1911 the family were living at Nicholson's Buildings, Chester-le-Street. Samuel was a Coal Miner Hewer, James was the eldest son.
In 1939 Samuel and Helen were still living at Nicholson's Buildings. James was living at 38 South Burns, Chester-le-Street. He was a Road Labourer
James enlisted into the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve. He died at Sleaford, Lincolnshire. Following a service at the Parish Church he was buried in Ropery Lane Cemetery.
