In Birtley Elisabethville Roman Catholic Cemetery is a headstone of a Belgian soldier which reads:-

Raoul Antoine Nestor Brunet was born on the 1st December 1891 at Laken the son of Arthur Benoît Marie and his wife Marie Jacqueline Vercaeren who resided at Etterbeek.

He enlisted in 1908 with the service number 141/17032. He died of disease on the 27th December 1917 at Birtley Elisabethville and is buried in the Roman Catholic Cemetery.

Raoul Antoine Nestor Brunet is remembered at Birtley on B127.11
