In Dozingham Military Cemetery, West Vlaanderen, near Ypres, Belgium is the Commonwealth War Grave of 27/1346 Private Thomas William Wilson serving with the Northumberland Fusiliers who died 04/09/1917.

Thomas William Wilson was born at Felling, near Gateshead, County Durham in 1878 and married Mary Wilson born 1879, native of Sunderland, at Sunderland in 1900. Newly married they lived at 4, Bell Street, Washington where Thomas was employed as a coal hewer. Mary gave birth to three children two of whom died in infancy, their daughter Beatrice May was born at Washington in 1904. In 1911 they were living at 3, Walker Street.

Thomas William Wilson enlisted at Newcastle-upon-Tyne, January 1915, assigned to the newly formed 27th (4th Tyneside Irish) Battalion Northumberland Fusiliers as Private 1346. After initial training near home, they joined the 103rd Brigade, 34th Division at Ripon in June 1915 and after further training moved to Salisbury Plain in late August for final training. They departed to France in January 1916, where the division concentrated at La Crosse, east of St Omer. They were in action during the Battles of the Somme 1916, including the capture of Scots and Sausage Redoubts, the attacks at Bazentin Ridge, Pozieres Ridge and Flers-Courcelette. In 1917 they fought during the First Battle of the Scarpe and the Battle of Arleux during the Arras Offensive. August 10th 1917 due to losses sustained the 24th joined forces with the 27th creating the 24th/27th Battalion.

Private 27/1346 Thomas William Wilson (Tyneside Irish) Northumberland Fusiliers was killed in action September 4th 1917 during day to day trench warfare between France and Belgium. He was interred at Dozingham Military Cemetery, West Vlaanderen, near Ypres, Belgium, grave V. A. 8. He was 39 years old.

His widow Mary as his sole legitimate beneficiary received all monies due to him, a pension for herself and their daughter along with his awards of the British War Medal and Victory Medal sent to her at 26, The Square, Wardley Colliery, Pelaw, County Durham. Further details of Mary Wilson nee Wilson and daughter, unknown.
