Brenda McMahon has submitted the following:

John was the son of Francis and Isabella (nee Dryden)and was born in 1899. He was baptised 16 March that year. His mother died the same year so it is possible she died in childbirth or of following complications. She was 26 years old.

His father now a widower lived with his wife’s parents at 46 Greensfield Terrace. After 1901 census the only record of his father is his death in 1917. John continued to live with his grandparents.

John enlisted into the army in Newcastle. He joined the South Staffordshire Regiment (service no 42664) but later transferred to Bedfordshire Regiment.

He died of his injuries on 12 November 1918 at Red Cross Hospital, Glasgow aged 19 years. In fact, he died the day after the Armistice.

John Boyd Brady is remembered at Gateshead on G39.004
