James was born on 16th October 1888 and was working as a warehouseman living at 104, Brighton Road, Gateshead when he enlisted in the Royal Naval Division on 27th October 1914. [Note: His wife was living at 79, St. Peters Road, Byker at the time]. He was posted to 4th Platoon, B Company, Collingwood Battalion and was killed in action in Gallipoli on 4th June 1915.
