Deep in our hearts
a memory is kept
of one we loved
and will never forget.

Neil Wilson-Harris tells us:

Frederick, or Eric, as my mother knew him, was my mother’s favourite cousin and they regularly wrote to each other up until he was killed by a sniper whilst in his tank, only three weeks before the Germans surrendered.
His family, the Proberts, originally came from Birmingham. My Great Grandmother being a Probert, who then married my Grandfather, a Jenks, also from Birmingham. My mother told me that his father was a policeman in Gateshead. A friend of mine has just visited the cemetery in Hamburg where he is buried and took some pictures of the headstone and the roll book.

The Scouts Roll of Honour 1939 says that he was aged 25 when he died. He was associated with the 16th Gateshead (St. George's) Group.

Frederick James Probert is remembered in Gateshead on G39.011
