GATESHEAD

Rogerson, P., Pte., 1916
On Thiepval Memorial to the Missing of the Somme is the name of 19343 Private Philip Rogerson serving with 12th Battalion Durham Light Infantry who died 08/07/1916.

Brenda McMahon has submitted the following:-

Philip Rogerson was born to parents Robert Dunn (a stonemason on the railway) and Agnes (nee Eadie) at Gateshead in 1891. The family lived at 3 McIntyre Row Felling. In 1901 they were at Sheriff Hill.

By 1911 no fewer than 8 children followed although 1 died:- Robert, joiner in shipyard, Alice, dressmaker, Philip, Engineer, William, Engineer, Agnes, Norman both at school and Raymond at home. The family were living at South Road House Sheriff Hill.

Philip enlisted into the army at Felling and was later killed in action on 8 July 1916.

Philip Rogerson is remembered at Gateshead in G39.004 at Gateshead Fell on G39.064

He is also remembered in The DLI Book of Remembrance page 176
