Coulson, G., Pte., 1918
In Martinsart Cemetery is the Commonwealth War Grave of 19/838 Private George Coulson serving with 19th Battalion, Z Company, Northumberland Fusiliers (Tyneside Pioneers) who died 01/06/1918.

Brenda McMahon has submitted the following:-

No personal information is available about this soldier at present except that he had a sister, Ellen. The family (or members) could have lived at 45 Robson Street Gateshead for a while.

He went missing in action 1 June 1918 and was later assumed dead.

He was buried at Martinsart British Cemetery which is an unusual cemetery in that the graves are marked by stone made from red Corsehill or Lochharbriggs sandstone rather than the usual Portland stone.

George was awarded the British War Medal and also the Victory Medal for his service.

George Coulson is remembered at Gateshead Fell on G39.064 and in the Battalion History
