Rev. David Youngson has submitted the following:
Residing at Sunderland, he was Initiated on into 80 St.John’s Lodge, Masonic Hall, Park Terrace, 8th June 1909; Passed on 11th October 1909 and Raised on 22nd December, 1913. He was the husband of Frances A.R. Bolam of 191 Westbourne Avenue, Gateshead, he died on the 24th August 1917 aged 38. He is remembered on the Chatham Naval memorial 25.
The S.S. Heatherside (2767 GRT) was on a voyage from Milford Haven to Malta with a cargo of coal. She was torpedoed and sunk by the German submarine U93 in the Atlantic. 27 of the crew were lost.
