Prisoner of War Camps in WW2

James Dourish was born in 1919 in Gateshead, son to James and Sarah (nee Gunn) and grandson to James and Sarah Ann (nee Grainger).

James saw service in WW2 with the R.C.S. (Royal Corps of Signals) and was initially posted as missing in the Middle East before he was identified as a prisoner of war.

James was with the Expeditionary Forces in the Middle East, in Cyrenaica (a province of Libya) when he appears on casualty list number 905 dated 20th June 1942 as missing. He is then reported as a prisoner of war in German hands:2583348 DOURISH, Dvr. J.6 L of C Sigs.

Stalag IV-F. Was opened in February 1941, the camp held mainly French troops captured during the battle of France, and British captured in North Africa. The POWs were assigned to various Arbeitskommando ("Work detachments") locally. The camp was liberated by American forces in March 1945.
