In Fins New British Cemetery, Sorel-le-Grand is the Commonwealth War Grave of 27877 Private W. Birkenshaw, serving with the Northumberland Fusiliers who died 06/09/1918.

Blyth News 14/4/1921 reports that £8 3s 8d of balances of money due to deceased soldiers was available for collection by next of kin.

He is remembered at Gateshead in theGateshead Roll of Honour page 23
