On the Tyne Cot Memorial is the name of 43217 Private James Kirton, serving with the Welsh Regiment who died 08/11/1917.

Soldiers Died in the Great War states that he was born in Gateshead, enlisted in Cardiff and lived in Newcastle upon Tyne.

Steve Smith has supplied the following:

"James is our relative. He was the son of John and Catherine Kirton of Saltmeadows and lived at 6 Sunderland Street. Newcastle. When he died in 1917, therefore, as a resident of the parish, is named on the memorial in St John's Church, Newcastle."
