Lamb, J.W., Rfmn., 1917
In Jerusalem War Cemetery is the Commonwealth War Grave of 573844 Rifleman John Wheatley Lamb serving with the London Rifle Brigade who died 29/11/1917.

Brenda McMahon has submitted the following:-

John Wheatley was born in 1898 at Gateshead. He and his family lived at several addresses in Gateshead area. John enlisted at Finsbury London and was originally with 5th CLR (other units) before transferring to London Rifle Brigade.

He died of wounds in the Middle East and is buried in Jerusalem Military Cemetery.

His parents John and Margaret living at 12 Deckham Terrace Gateshead were informed of his death. In October 1916 his neighbour Cpl George William Wearmouth of 11 Deckham Terrace was killed and is buried at Chocques Military Cemetery in France.

It is possible that he was known as Wheatley Lamb – two of the memorials give this as his name.

John Wheatley Lamb is remembered at Gateshead on G39.004 G39.040, G39.041, G39.055 and in Gateshead Circuit Magazine
