In Ribecourt British Cemetery is the Commonwealth War Grave of Captain William Swan, serving with the Sherwood Foresters (Notts and Derby Regiment) who died 06/12/1917.

In Gateshead (Saltwell) Cemetery is a family headstone which reads:

William Swan F.C.A.
beloved husband of
Esther Jane Swan,
who died May 26th 1919
aged 61 years.
Also the above
Esther Jane Swan
who died Jan. 28th 1942
aged 86 years.
Captain W. Swan
2/5th Sherwood Foresters
dearly beloved son of above
was killed in action
at Ribecourt
Dec. 6th 1917
Aged 26 years.
Faithful unto death

He is remembered in Felling on F32.22 and in Gateshead on G39.004
