In Courmas British Cemetery is the Commonwealth War Grave of Second Lieutenant W.G. Pretsell, serving with the King's Own Yorkshire Light Infantry who died 20/07/1918.

He is named in the Scouts First World War Roll of Honour:

Gateshead Pretsall, Lt. W.G., M.C. King's Own Yorkshire Light Infantry. Late Scout 4th Gateshead (Christchurch) Troop. Killed in action, July 20th.
