In Lapugnoy Military Cemetery is the Commonwealth War Grave of 7216 Private George Watson, serving with the 11th Battalion, Northumberland Fusiliers, who died 10/04/1916.

George Watson, was born on the 20th January 1896 at 25 Southey Street, Gateshead. His parents were George and Bridget (nee Garraty) Watson and George was one of 9 surviving children from a family of 14. These were Jane Ann, Sarah Elizabeth, James, Eveline, Ada, (George), Violet, Lilian and Norman.

The census returns show George's father as a Chemist's Assistant (1891), an Analytical Chemist (1901) and a Mineral Sampler (1911), and also show the family employed a Margaret Trotter as a domestic housemaid in 1901 while living at Bensham Crescent.

By 1911 and with a smaller household, the family were at Askew Road, Gateshead and had a boarder in place of a servant. At the time of George's death, who died of wounds 10th April 1916, age 20, their address was 17, Coatsworth Road, Gateshead.
