South Lancashire Regt.
15th July 1918

Brenda McMahon has submitted the following:-

Joshua was the son of Joshua (senior). He was born 12 August 1881 in Newcastle.

His father died in 1902 which is the same year his son married.

Joshua’s wife was Agnes McFarlane (formerly McGowan). The couple had at least 4 children one of whom died young. His daughters were Agnes, Jane and Margaret. There may have been another child later. According to 1911 census the family was living in one room at 72 Fleming Street Gateshead. He worked as a general labourer at a builder’s merchants.

He was embodied 3 July 1915.

He died at Norfolk War Hospital at Thorpe, Norfolk on 15 July 1918.

After his death his personal effects were returned to his wife. They included 1 stamped envelope, stamps, 2 pencils, 1 packet of razor blades, safety razor, knife, shaving brush, pipe, comb, mirror, shaving stick, belt, job pouch, rosary, a woollen comforts holdall and a housewife.

Joshua Dixon has not been found on any Gateshead memorial.
