On the Loos Memorial is the name of 5846 Private Michael Daley, serving with the 14th (Service) Battalion, Northumberland Fusiliers who died 26/09/1915.

Michael Daley was born at Newcastle-upon-Tyne on the 9th November 1895, son of Patrick Daley, 62 Leopold Street, Gateshead, Tobacco pipe Manufacturer, and his wife, Margaret, daughter of Hugh McCabe.

Educated at St Joseph's School, Bensham Road, Gateshead, employed as a Miner.

Michael enlisted on the 7th September 1914, but went to France on the 8th September 1915.

He was killed at the Battle of Loos on the 26th September 1915.

The Consett Guardian reports:

Daley. Michael, of 62 Leopold Street, Gateshead, Private in 14th N.F. (5846) killed in action in France 26th Sept., 1915.

He is remembered in Gateshead on G39.051
