George was born at Low Fell on 10 January 1884 the son of Thomas and Elizabeth (nee Riddell).

The family lived at several addresses in the Gateshead area. Thomas, father, was a chemical labourer. By 1901 Thomas was dead so George lived with his mother and 2 brothers at 32 Town Street. George in shown as working as a labourer in the shipyard.

On 13th February George married his sweetheart, Sarah Elizabeth Robson at Venerable Bede Church. The couple rented 2 rooms at 18 East Street & within a year he was the father of a son, Thomas. Later another son, George, arrived then in 1914 a daughter, Barbara. Unfortunately Barbara died at the young age of 2 years.

By the time George became a soldier he was working, like his father did, as a labourer in the chemical works.

George served with the 18th Battalion Northumberland Fusiliers (Tyneside Pioneers). His service number was 18/887.

George was killed in action in France on 8 January 1917 and is buried at Brewery Orchard Cemetery Bois-Grenier France.

George Clark is remembered at Gateshead on G39.004 and G39.025 and in the Battalion History page 144.
