Brown, D.A., 2nd Lieut., 1916

In Pont-du-Hem Military Cemetery, La Gorgue is the Commonwealth War Grave of Second Lieutenant Donald Andrew Brown, serving with the 9th Battalion, Durham Light Infantry who died between 22/07/1916 and 23/07/1916.

Donald Andrew Brown was born in 1895, the youngest child of six children to Daniel Angus Brown, [born 1854], at Winlaton, and his wife Jane Anne Brown, [born 1858], Whickham.

This photo appeared in the Newcastle Daily Chronicle 31/07/1916 with a caption saying he had been wounded.

Soldiers Died in the Great War states that he died "in German hands" as a prisoner of war.

He is remembered in Blaydon on B111.01, B111.07 and B111.14 and at Durham in DLI Book of Remembrance page 190
