Air Ministry Casualty Communique No. 94, published in Flight Magazine of December 4th 1941 records him as ‘Died on Active Service.’

His funeral was reported in the Newcastle Journal and North Mail, Wednesday 29/10/1941, page 3:
R.A.F. FUNERAL
A combined posse of Blaydon and Winlaton Home Guards and members of the R.A.F. formed a guard of honour and six R.A.F. men were under bearers at the funeral yesterday of Leading Aircraftman James Horan, R.A.F., son of Mr. and Mrs. J. Horan, of Maple Road, Blaydon, whose interment at Blaydon Cemetery was preceded by Requiem Mass at Blaydon St. Joseph’s Church. Horan, who was 20, was killed last Thursday in Wilts, when he was run over. He was a fitter at Vickers-Armstrong before joining the R.A.F. eleven months ago. A fortnight ago he was vocal soloist at a Home Guard social at Winlaton while on leave.
