He was connected to the 1st Blaydon Stella (St. Cuthbert's) Group Scouts. The Scout Roll of Honour for 1939-45 states that he was killed in a road accident in Cheltenham.

SOLDIER DIES
Victim of Local Accident
The young soldier, Pte. Edward Roxby Copeland, R.A., who was removed to Cheltenham General Hospital on Saturday following a motor-cycle accident at the junction of Thirlestane Road and Bath Road, died in hospital on Sunday. He was involved in a collision with a lorry owned by Cheltenham Factors, Ltd., and driven by Mr. T. Turner, of Guiting.

He received several head and facial injuries, and also an injury to the knee.

Pte. Copeland was 24 years of age. His home was at West mean, Strilidon Bank [sic], Blaydon-on-Tyne.

SCOUTS’ TRIBUTE AT FUNERAL
Blaydon Scouts, of whom he was Assistant Scoutmaster, were underbearers at the funeral at Blaydon to-day of Gunner Edward Roxby Copeland, R.A., son of Mr. and Mrs. T. Copeland, of Westmead, Shibdon Bank, Blaydon. The Rev. E. O. Lane conducted the service at the Albert Street Methodist Church, Blaydon.

Gunner Copeland, aged 24, was fatally injured in a road accident. Before the war he was for two years in the Territorials and was employed by Messrs. Hull and Chicken at the Quayside Exchange, Newcastle, as a clerk. He was a member of Blaydon Lawn Tennis Club.

Girl Guides of Blaydon district attended the funeral.

Edward Roxby Copeland is remembered at Blaydon on B111.01 and B111.08
