Dance, L.G., Sgt, awarded D.C.M. 1916
The Newcastle Daily Chronicle 14/08/1916 reports:

Well-known athlete entertained at Blaydon.
Sergeant Leo. G. Dance, R.F.A., a well-known athlete, was entertained last night at a concert in the Church Hall, Blaydon, organised by the local Reception Committee in honour of his having won the D.C.M.

Sergt. Dance, who is a member of the Blaydon Harriers Club, has a distinguished record as a cross-country runner; one of his best achievements being the winning of the great military cross-country run at Aldershot in January of last year.

. . . . .Sergt. Dance qualified for the D.C.M. under the following circumstances. He showed great zeal, tact and control over his detachment, when on several occasions they were being shelled, especially at Ypres. Later he replaced siege lamps under very heavy shell fire.”

He was handed a cheque for £5 by Mr. Rutter Carr on behalf of the Reception Committee.
