In St. Pol Communal Cemetery Extension is the Commonwealth War Grave of 19/647 Lance Sergeant Joseph William Stones, serving with the 19th Battalion Durham Light Infantry, who died on the 18/01/1917.

Lance Sergeant Joseph William Stones was shot at dawn on 18th January 1917, for casting away his arms and running away from the front line, at the same time as Lance-Corporal McDonald, (Millfield Sunderland) and Lance-Corporal Peter Goggins (South Moor). All three lie side by side in St. Pol cemetery.
