Peart, T.C., Pte., 1914-1918 (1932)

Thomas Carr Peart was the eldest son of Henry and Mary Harriet Peart who was born in 1893 in Stanhope Parish.

In 1911 the family of five sons and 4 daughters lived at Moss House, Cowshill. Henry had been a lead miner but was now a Quarryman. Thomas (18) and Alfred (14 ) were labourers.

Thomas enlisted in 1914 and joined the 18th D.L.I. (number 18/953). He served in Egypt from 20th December 1915. Thomas survived the War, was demobilised in 1919 and re-enlisted into the Queen’s Own Cameron Highlanders. (number 50906)

The Auckland Chronicle 16/10/1919 reads:- "Private Tom C. Peart is home on leave. He joined the 18th D.L.I. in 1914 and was with the Pals till this year. He has re-enlisted in the Cameron Highlanders."

Thomas died in March 1932.

He is remembered on the Roll of Honour at Cowshill St. Thomas of men who served in the Great War. C118.02
