The Auckland and County Chronicle of 15/03/1940 reports the death of Corporal Arthur Stanley Telford on 14th March, aged 24. He was the only son of Mr. and Mrs. A.R. Telford of Durham Moor. His sister was Mrs. Reed of Thornley.
He was educated at Neville's Cross Council School. He worked for Mr. J.B. Lazenby, solicitor in Newcastle, but his ambition was to join the Royal Air Force which he did in 1934. He trained in the south of England then went to the West Indies for two years. He was training to be a pilot and was making rapid progress.
His aircraft, which he was flying solo, crashed in the south of England.
