He was born 1897/8.

He lived at 100 Gilesgate, Durham, Co Durham. His father, John William, was a joiner; his mother was Catherine. An elder sister was a shipping clerk. He had two brothers and two sisters.

He was a student at Durham Johnston school

He worked as a Civil Servant.

He enlisted in December 1915 at Sunderland into the Army Reserve, and was mobilised in February 1917. He was sent to France June 1917 and died 22/03/1918, aged 20
