William George Wright was born in 1881 at Durham to parents Samuel Murless Wright from Northampton and Mary Wright from Durham.
In the 1901 Census, at the age of 20, he was living at 29, Gilesgate, Durham in his parents’ house where his father was a carpet weaver and William was employed as a stonemason. Siblings in the house at this time included Lucy 23, Samuel 17, Harry 14, Ellen 10 and Charles aged 1.
By 1911, William had been married for 6 years and he was living at the Dunns Hotel, Stanley, County Durham, where his widowed father was a Publican. William, aged 30, was working as a barman at this address with his wife Hannah and children Lillian 5, Mable 2 and William aged 10 months. Records show his wife was Hannah Joicey before her marriage to William.
Among Military records, his Pension Index Card documents his wife Hannah Wright and children Lillian, Mable, William and Ellen Mary Davis.
William enlisted at Consett in County Durham and documents detail his place of death at No. 1 Station Hospital, Rough. His effects went to Hannah who was still shown as a widow in 20/9/1919.
