In St.Mary’s Churchyard is a family headstone for Liddle which includes:

John Liddle 5th D.L.I.
who fell in action in France
24th May 1915 aged 20 years.

John Liddle
5th Battalion, Durham Light Infantry
lived at 2 Prospect Place, Coxhoe. Embarked for France on the 15th April 1915. He was killed in action on 24th May 1915. during the first battle of Ypres and has no known grave. John is remembered on the Menin Gate in the town of Ypres in Belgium.
